According to reports, Duravit’s sanitary ceramics factory in Bischwiller, Bas-Rhine, France has been shutting down its kilns since October. The production line has since been shut down completely.
“Affected by the long-term significant decline in global demand for ceramic products,” Duravit announced plans to close its Bischwiller factory in Alsace at the end of 2023. The aim was to reduce the number of sanitary ceramics factories in Europe from three to two.
Duravit blames the downturn in the construction industry and the downturn in the construction market.
Since the factory’s sanitary ceramics production line was closed in October, the company has implemented a short-time working system. It is said that it was the lack of favorable prospects that led the company to decide to shut down the production line. Ho 2022, Duravit has just carried out an automated transformation and upgrade of the production line.
Other production lines such as massage bathtubs in the factory will operate normally. Approximately 180 employees will be affected.
Duravit sales in 2022 were 707 li-euro tse limilione. It has seven sanitary ceramics factories around the world: two in Germany, one in Egypt, two in China, one in Tunisia, and one in India. The eighth factory is under construction in Quebec, Canada.
